COMPETITION RULES
MISSION STATEMENT
These rules exist to:
Maintain high competition standards in accordance with the rules and traditions of golf;
To ensure equality of opportunity for, and treatment of, all competitors
APPLICATION OF THE RULES
These rules apply to all club competitions:
Unless varied on an exceptional basis by the Competitions Committee
Except Matchplay events, the rules for which are published separately
They do not supersede or overwrite the R & A Rules of Golf which apply at all times
BEFORE THE COMPETITION:
To enter any competition, you must be a fully paid-up member of URVGC, hold a current CONGU handicap and not be subject to any extant club suspension
Those members whose competition marker has been removed from their handicap as they have not submitted three qualifying scores in the previous twelve months will be able to enter competitions in order to submit a qualifying score but they will not be able to win prizes, their scores being added at the foot of the score sheet
Having entered a competition and been included in the draw, a competitor must notify the PRO SHOP, with as much notice as possible, of his/her need to withdraw
PENALTY: Suspension from future competition(s) [at the discretion of the Disciplinary Committee]
BEFORE PLAYING YOU MUST:
Sign in by notifying the selected club representative present in the Pro Shop
PENALTY: Disqualification
Pay the appropriate Competition Fee, by a contactless means of payment or with the correct money.
PENALTY: Disqualification
Comply fully with the course dress code
PENALTY: Disqualification
Report to the Pro Shop 10 minutes before your allocated tee time
Late arrival will be penalised as follows:
Up to 5 minutes late
PENALTY: Two-stroke penalty, to be added to 1st Hole score
Over 5 minutes late
PENALTY: Disqualification
DURING COMPETITION PLAY:
Use of mobile telephones is forbidden
Use of caddies is not permitted
Use of buggies is permitted only in exceptional circumstances and with the advance permission of the Competitions Committee. Such permission is granted
on the understanding that use of the buggy is restricted to the carriage of the person and his equipment for whom it is authorised
You must complete your round unless a satisfactory explanation can be provided
ON COMPLETION OF YOUR COMPETITION ROUND:
You must sign and print on the card you are marking before returning it to a drop box in the Pro Shop. You must not swap cards.
You must submit your card, even if it is a “No Return”
SLOW PLAY
Slow play impedes everybody’s enjoyment of golf and should be avoided at all times. It is, however, generally a breach of etiquette and not golf rules. Notwithstanding this, persistent slow play can be treated as a disciplinary matter at the discretion of the Competitions Committee
REPORTING COMPLAINTS
Competitors observing any breaches of golf, competition or course rules, should provide full details, in writing and preferably supported by a witness, to the Committee without delay
CLUB COMPETITION REFEREE
The Committee have appointed the Club Captain as the rules referee for any rules disputes that occur during competition play at URVGC
